On November 14, the Grand Finals of the 2025 World Vocational College Skills Competition were held in Tianjin, China. Huai Jinpeng, Minister of Education of China, and Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sport of the Kingdom of Cambodia, delivered video addresses. Xu Qingsen, Vice Minister of Education, attended the event. Under the theme "Skills Shine Youth, Expertise Creates the Future", the competition attracted 8,956 teams and over 33,000 participants from 76 countries across the globe. For the first time, four overseas divisions were set up in Southeast Asia, Central Asia, Africa and Europe, with competitions hosted in Cambodia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Zambia and France. The event reached an unprecedented scale in its history.
After fierce contests in the preliminary rounds, ranking matches and grand finals, the project Modular Intelligent Manufacturing Skill Workshop, co-guided by Rui Hongyan from our School of Mechanical Engineering and local teacher Hak Sideth from Cambodia-China University of Technology and Science, claimed the third place. The project was completed by three Cambodian students from the university: Ty Pisey, Thav Phanha and Seab Thaisann.
Another entry Earth Pulse - Intelligent Slope Safety Monitoring and Early Warning System in the Next-Generation Information Technology category won the Excellence Award. It was developed by three Cambodian students, Sok Meyling, San Channdevit and Thea Sreyve, under the joint guidance of Zhou Hui from our School of Computer and Software Engineering and Cambodian instructors, as well as the team led by Professor Hu Guangyong and Professor Zhou Hui. Through repeated discussions and plan optimization, the team developed an integrated intelligent solution for mountain disaster monitoring, which combines massive remote sensing data processing, real-time intelligent sensor data collection and cloud-based remote early warning platforms. During the preparation, team members worked closely together and applied academic knowledge to tackle practical engineering challenges.
Cambodia-China University of Technology and Science was the only institution with two teams advancing to the global grand finals. In recognition of our outstanding work in organizing the Southeast Asia Division, our university was presented with the Excellent Organization Award of the 2025 World Vocational College Skills Competition. Xie Yonghua, Secretary of the University Party Committee, received the award on stage.
As the first overseas applied technology university launched by Chinese vocational education institutions, Cambodia-China University of Technology and Science was jointly founded by our university and the Cambodian-Chinese General Association. Tailored to the demands of local Chinese-funded enterprises and domestic industries in Cambodia, the university offers 10 undergraduate majors including Mechatronic Engineering Technology, and adopts real enterprise projects in teaching. The award-winning Modular Intelligent Manufacturing Skill Workshop transforms actual production lines into immersive training bases. Following the "learning by doing" approach, it ensures that talents trained here can well meet the needs of local industrial development.
Taking this competition as a new starting point, our university will continue to host high-level international events with Cambodia-China University of Technology and Science as a bridge. We will build a platform for multilateral cooperation and exchanges among ASEAN nations, develop the university into a key hub for China-ASEAN collaboration, and drive the high-quality development of vocational education worldwide.
