On December 17, the New Opportunities • New Heights: Chinese + TVET — Dialogue on China-ASEAN Cooperation Mechanism from the Perspective of Higher Vocational Education was convened in Nanjing. This Dialogue was jointly sponsored by Center for Language Education and Cooperation, China-ASEAN Center, Foreign Affairs Office of Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government, Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education and Nanjing Vocational University of Industry Technology. This Event was aimed at further strengthening the cooperation of China and ASEAN countries in education and driving the high-quality development of “Chinese + TVET” education.

Present at the Event were Director of the Center for Language Education and Cooperation Ma Jianfei, Deputy Director of Foreign Affairs Office of Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government Bao Guangliang, Director General of International Cooperation & Exchange Division of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, Minister Counsellor of Education and Science of the Embassy of Royal Thai to China Pasupha Chinvarasopak, Education and Culture Counsellor of the Embassy of Indonesia to China Yaya Sutarya, Education and Culture Counsellor of the Embassy of Lao PDR to China Phoxay Thepvilayvong, Head of Education Section of the Embassy of Vietnam to China Hoàng mai din, Secretary of the Party Committee of Nanjing Vocational University of Industry Technology Wu Xuemin and President of Nanjing Vocational University of Industry Technology Xie Yonghua. Representatives of over 30 domestic and overseas vocational colleges and universities participated in the Dialogue which was presided over by Vice President of Nanjing Vocational University of Industry Technology Sun Yanfei.

Ms. Pasupha Chinvarasopak, Minister Counsellor of Education and Science of the Embassy of Royal Thai to China, said that the international occupation education is the urgent need for training new composite talents in the great context of digitalized transformation, an important way to cope with the new challenges of talent cultivation under new normal circumstance of global COVID-19 epidemic and also a new driving force for economy in the next several decades. Mr. Yaya Sutarya, Education and Culture Counsellor of the Embassy of Indonesia to China, held the idea that vocational education provides outstanding professional and technical professionals for the society to meet the needs of commercial and industrial development; international projects concerning vocational education not only cultivate a great number of high-quality professionals, but also helpe to encourage scientific and technological innovation of universities and colleges; and international vocational education has had a profound influence on Indonesian education. Mr. Phoxay Thepvilayvong, Education and Culture Counsellor of the Embassy of Lao PDR to China, mentioned in his speech that China and Laos now are at the best historical period of relationship, under which numerous young Lao students are studying in many different universities and vocational schools in China, to promote in-depth cooperation between ASEAN and China in future vocational education in a pragmatic way just as the President Xi Jinping proposes to build a community with a shared future for mankind; and the Embassy of Laos to China is willing to offer a hand to promote cooperation of China and Laos vocational in vocational education sectors.

Counselors in succession expressed their willingness to strengthen their cooperation with China in the field of vocational education in the context of rapid development of new technologies such as the Internet, artificial intelligence and big data, followed by the constant change of industrial and social structures, and subsequently urgent demand for technical and skilled talents. They thanked the Chinese government and relevant vocational colleges and universities for the training programs of technical professionals and teachers for ASEAN countries. Moreover, they pointed out the willingness of ASEAN countries to strengthen bilateral and multilateral cooperation with China to create a better future.

The Inauguration Ceremony of Jiangsu-ASEAN Technical Talent Training and Practice Base and the Inauguration Ceremony of Jiangsu-ASEAN Vocational Education Cooperation Alliance were carried out on the meeting.

In the link of keynote speech, Vice President of the Federation of Khmer Chinese in Cambodia Chhor Nary, President of Malaysia Eunoia Chan Fook Yee, Vice President of Beijing Polytechnic College Zhou Yan shared and exchanged their experiences in “Chinese + TVET” practice and exploration.

In the links of expert report and panel discussion, experts including Director of the Language and Writing Resource Research Center of Beijing Normal University Song Jihua, and President of Nanjing Vocational College of Information Technology Tian Min shared and exchanged the themes on High-quality Development of “Chinese + TVET” Education and the Exploration and Prospects of “Chinese + TVET” “Going Global”.

Participating in the Dialogue were totally over 50 representatives from domestic vocational colleges and universities, as well as vocational colleges and universities in Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and other countries. Over 600 domestic and overseas guests viewed the live broadcasting of the meeting on line.
